In the same way I can use all commands of Excel without even touching my mouse. For example Alt+H+W use to wrap the text in the cell column of Excel on PC, Alt+H+B+A will put a border on all sides of the cell. Any better ideas, though, and I'm all ears. Now in windows I was very much used to Alt key based shortcut functions that use to help me in navigating the ribbon specially in Excel. The second your pointer is over the bar, command-tab is back. So to get out of Windows, you no longer have to point at the top of the screen and wait for the toolbar to drop, which does take a non-trivial amount of time. Interestingly, if you so much as hover your mouse over the minibar, your alt-tab that was command-tab becomes command-tab again. Now you've got this guy sitting on the left side (or wherever you finally position it) of your screen. I'm not sure what's going on there.)īut if you combine this with the full screen minibar under the View menu, you get closer to being in business. (Note that this checkbox, above, seems to "check itself" every so often. Once you're in, the only way I see to get out without any other change is to put your mouse at the top of the winow, wait for the Fusion menubar to appear, then move back into OS X. But now Windows is, indeed, a black hole. If you unclick "Enable Mac OS X Keyboard Shortcuts" in Preferences for VMWare Fusion (so command-, instead of Virtual Machine settings), you can "swallow" the Mac command-tab and, in my situation, preserve the alt-tab. I don't mind if there's no easy way to Command-Tab back into OS X from a VM.Īfter lots of frustration, I've got a possible compromise solution. I'd like to maintain the fullscreen Windows rather than swap to Unity. "Command-Tab" still cycles me into OS X apps when invoked from a VM. Neither does what I'd intended them to do. I've tried setting up keyboard profiles like the one below, and like the one below minus the explicit alt-tab mapping. (So, obviously, I'd also like my "option" key work as my Windows key in the VMs.) I'd like to have the command button from OS X map to Alt in my VMs, so that my keyboard works as a standard MS style keyboard in Windows. Now the Alt key maps to the Command key in OS X and Alt-Tab cycles Mac apps. I use Keyboard Prefs to swap Option and Command and I'm done. I want to have Alt on my Windows keyboard map to the OS X command button. I use VMWare fullscreen, and currently spend much if not most of my day programming in Windows.
